Cookie Ad Threatens Country

Call me an outlier, but this commercial is just the kind of thing that makes me want to run screaming from our great nation. I’ll give you the short version, spied in my house during our every-four-years bout of television watching. (You know the one I’m talking about.)

Did you see me tweet about this add a couple of weeks ago? I was waiting for friends at Brasserie Beck when it come on the TV in front of me. I was stunned.

This was one of the few things I saw during a 2-week visit home after 10 years. I thought I was just too long gone to “get” it. I still don’t get it. Does Rod Stewart get paid for this? Why does the cookie look like a fish? What’s wrong with the girl? Who eats the cookie? Is this some Wii reference I’m not getting? Should I have stayed until I understood this ad? Do I have to stop eating Chips Ahoy?

I find the election to be another reason to be glad I pulled the cable along time ago. The ads are repetitive, banal, and appeal to our basest natures and what passes for news in an election cycle isn’t much better. I really have so little interest in what Michelle said about what McCain said about what Obama said.

This ad mostly makes me jealous of clay lady’s cool apartment with its nice view and mid-century modern furniture. Or maybe it’s the cookie’s apartment. Either way, I am envious of a clay character and that ain’t right.

Oh, no. No, no, no. That commercial ought to be taken behind the back of the barn and shot.

That’s why I watch the Olympics on Canadian television. Far less obnoxious commercials. Just ads for CBC television shows and occasionally, Tim Hortons.

Finally watched this. Makes me thankful I don’t watch much TV. (Haven’t watched any all summer.)

The Super Bowl is the only time I watch ads. ;-)

This JCPenny commercial pains me more: http://snurl.com/3kbzk. It makes me die a little inside.
